The Board of Directors of Siemens Netherlands decided today to open a location on the Healthy Ageing Campus at University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).
An establishment contributes to a growth of the activities of Siemens in the north of the country in the field of medical technology and medical research and the already existing activities relating to oil and gas (Groningen gas field), building services, as well as the recently acquired large projects wind energy. A new facility in Groningen is therefore a logical decision.
In addition to the existing facility in Assen, about 30 additional employees will still be stationed in a new facility in the R&D Hotel on the campus.
Siemens "We see this as an important step in the further development of our activities in Groningen. For employment in the North, this will give an extra boost, "says Ab van der Touw, Chairman of the Management Board of Siemens Netherlands NV.
Siemens Netherlands has been working in various fields closely with the UMCG. For example, Siemens delivered this year's biggest fire alarm system in Europe for the University Medical Center. Many of the medical imaging equipment and related IT infrastructure is provided by Siemens Healthcare. In addition, Siemens and the UMCG will cooperate in the field of Personal Health Care, a development in which information (e.g. big data) in medical devices is analyzed and used for the individualization of health care. Siemens and UMCG become strategic partners in the scientific field.
