Innovative products and ideas can help solve social issues and increase prosperity. A crucial phase involved is the step from research (or: idea or concept) to a commercial market ready product (or: process, service).

This phase is called the early phase ("vroege fase') for startups or innovation phase ("vernieuwingsfase") for SMEs. Companies often struggle with the early stage in the innovation cycle. This means often that the startup has to stop. VFF has been developed to solve this issue.

What is VFF?

VFF is a risk-bearing loan for entrepreneurs that can be applied to address the market potential of a novel idea or concept. The loan plus interest will have to be repaid and per 1 July 2014 the interest rate is 5.53%.

For whom?

Startups and established companies can apply for VFF. VFF mainly focuses on three groups:

SMEs (small and middle size)Innovative starters (< 6 years)Academic innovative starters

The total budget for 2014 is €6,4M. The size of individual loans depends on the size of the company and the size of the project. The deadline is 1 december 2014.
