Researchers from the University Medical Center Groningen have discovered how it is possible that some people never get sick.

According to the research by scientists at the University Medical Center Groningen, colleagues from the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (Nijmegen) and Harvard (Boston, USA), shows that some people never get ill because of a strong constitution in the genes. The researchers found that the resistance of people against bacteria and fungi can vary greatly.

In the future it should be possible to assess through a genetic test how big a person's risk of a particular infection is. Then drugs could be developed that strengthens the immune system.
