World Health Organization holds meeting in UMCG

The Global Health Department of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) hosts a meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) on 26th of August, 2014. From all over the world heads and representatives of nine leading centers come to the UMCG to discuss topics such as drug policy, drug statistics, drug prices and adverse events with each other.

Representatives of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Pharmaceutical Policy of the University of Utrecht from the Netherlands and the national office of drug side effects LAREB in Hertogenbosch are present. From abroad it will include representatives from the School of Public Health from Boston University, the national public health institute FIOCRUZ in Brazil, the Universities of San Francisco and Barcelona, the world center of drug side effects in Uppsala, the world center of drug nomenclature in Oslo, and European center of drug pricing information in Vienna.

From 1994 to 1998, the Clinical Pharmacology Department of the UMCG was a WHO Collaborating Centre for Problem-based Pharmacotherapy Teaching department. Cooperation with the WHO resulted in multiple courses and WHO publication WHO's Guide to Good Prescribing. The textbook on good prescribing practice has been translated into more than 22 languages.
